Imagine working with a project group of up to 4 students—whether from the same or different fields of study—and competing for a grand prize of €1250! This is your opportunity to transform train stations along the new Wunderline railway line into vibrant destinations that attract travelers to explore the local area. Not only could your idea become a reality, but you might also catch the eye of officials from one of the municipalities involved. How amazing would that be?
Groningen is getting a new railway connection to Bremen—the Wunderline! This exciting train route links Germany and the Netherlands, connecting two dynamic regions. Along this route, there are 12 stations, each eager to be put on the map. That’s where you come in! Your project group will be assigned one of these stations, and your mission is to develop an innovative idea that not only encourages passengers to stop there but also entices them to explore the surrounding area.
You’ll leverage the unique selling points (USPs) of the village or city connected to your station, creating an experience that compels passengers to get off the train and discover what the area has to offer. Whether it"s showcasing local culture, history, nature, or events, your goal is to make the station a must-visit destination. You’ll also collaborate closely with local officials to ensure your idea has a real impact. The jury, composed of mayors and officials from the participating towns and cities, will evaluate your project based on creativity, feasibility, and how effectively your idea promotes the station and encourages exploration.
This is your chance to be part of a groundbreaking project that will shape the future of train travel between Germany and the Netherlands. You’ll gain invaluable experience working on a real-world project, collaborate with peers across different disciplines, and make a difference in local communities. Plus, imagine the thrill of seeing your idea implemented and knowing you helped create a must-visit destination along the Wunderline route!
Why participate: Show off your creativity, win great prizes, and showcase your design to 12 municipalities. This is a unique opportunity to expand your network and raise your profile. What you'll do: Design an attention-grabber for one of the Wunderline stations that reflects the local character of the area. Think of an artwork, light show, structure, or another eye-catching idea—be creative. This design should inspire travelers to get off at the station and explore the region. Bring your idea to life by creating a model of your design. It doesn't matter how you make it or what materials you use—nothing is too crazy! Your design should be innovative, sustainable, and feasible to convince the jury that you have the best idea. You will present your project in a visual document with text and images, which will be further shared in an online catalog after the challenge.
Prizes: The two final products will be judged by an independent jury of officials and mayors. The winning team will receive €1250, second prize is €500, and third prize is €200.
When: Kick-off: during the Promotiedagen at Martiniplaza on November 5. Submission deadline: Friday, November 15, at 11:59 PM. Closing event: December 4 in Bad Zwischenahn.
